Privacy policy

Kanak India Sales Service, DSK Vishwa, Pune - 411041, Maharashtra, India, operates JRNIcity and is the data fiduciary for the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. This explains what we collect, why, and what you can demand of us.

What we collect

• Your name, mobile number and email — to create your account and send trip updates.
• Your location — only while you are actively searching for a trip. We use it to work out your route and which services are available where you are standing.
• Fares you report back to us — to improve fare accuracy for everyone.
• Which options we showed you and which you opened — see the section below, because how we store this matters more than the fact that we do.

We collect no payment information of any kind, because we do not charge you. There is no card number, no UPI ID and no bank detail anywhere in this service, and no payment gateway receives anything about you from us.

Trip searches, and why they cannot identify you

When you search, we record which travel options were shown and which one you opened. This is how we learn that commuters on a particular route prefer an auto to a bus at a particular hour — something nobody in India currently measures.

We also count how many commuters we hand off to each ride operator. That is a count per operator. It is not attached to you.

Aggregate insights, and what we may do with them

We may publish or sell aggregate, anonymised findings drawn from the data above — for example that a given corridor is underserved by buses at a given hour, or how many commuters on a route choose an auto over public transport. Employers, transport authorities and researchers are the likely audience.

What is never sold, shared or published: your name, number, email, exact location, or any record that could be traced to you or to a single household. Only figures that have passed the 20-person threshold above ever leave our systems.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not build a location history and we do not track you when you are not using the app. We do not use your number for marketing unrelated to your trips. We have no access to your account with Uber, Ola or any other operator.

Who your data reaches

• OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim, OSRM, Overpass) receive coordinates in order to geocode and route. They do not receive your name, number or email.
• An operator you choose receives whatever their own app asks of you. We do not pass your details to them; you arrive as yourself in their app.
• Nobody else, except where the law compels us.

How long we keep it

Account data for as long as you have an account. Trip searches only in the rounded, aggregated form described above, which is not personal data once written. Delete your account and everything attached to it goes.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask us to show you your data, correct it, delete it, nominate someone to act for you, or withdraw consent to messages. Write to kanakindiass@gmail.com and we will act within 30 days.

Aggregated grid-square counts cannot be traced to an individual and therefore cannot be extracted or deleted per person — there is no "your row" in them to find. This is a consequence of collecting them safely, not a refusal.

Security

Passwords are stored salted and hashed, never in plain text. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to the operator console is limited and rate-limited. If a breach affects you we will tell you and notify the Data Protection Board as required.

Children

JRNIcity is not intended for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
